Types of insulin

Update: May 9th, 2009
(A) classification according to different sources

1, animal insulin:

From pigs and cattle in the extract of the pancreas, both effects, but compared with human insulin, porcine insulin in a different amino acid, bovine insulin in three different amino acids and thus easy to produce antibodies.

2, semi-synthetic human insulin:

Porcine insulin to the first 30 alanine, and insulin replacement into the same threonine, which is semi-synthetic human insulin.

3, biosynthesis of human insulin:

Use of biological engineering technology, access to the high purity of human insulin biosynthesis, and its amino acid sequence and biological activity and is identical to the human body's own insulin.

(B) Classification according to the duration of efficacy

1, ultra-efficient: the role of 15 minutes after injection, the peak concentration 1 - 2 hour.

     2, short-acting (quick): work 30 minutes after injection, the peak concentration of 2 - 4 hours for 5 - 8 hour.

3, in effect (low protamine zinc insulin): after injection 2 - 4 hours effect, the peak concentration of 6 - 12 hours, last 24 - 28 hours.

     4, long-acting (protamine zinc insulin): injection 4 - 6 hours effect, the peak concentration of 4 - 20 hours, last 24 - 36 hours.

5, Premixed: short-acting and in the forthcoming pre-mixing effect can be the first injection, and rapid onset (30 minutes), duration 16 - 20 hours. 30% of the market and 70% short-acting effect of pre-mixed, and short-, medium-efficiency 50 percent each of the two premixed.
